From Russia, With Love

(As for why I'm up at 5:49 AM: I fell asleep shortly after dinner, feeling oddly drowsy; I think I might have been allergic to something. I woke up at around 1:00, so I showered and got back to homework. I'm not as far with it as I'd hoped to be, but I can finish it between classes tomorrow. I'll need to, as it's due not that long after my last class!)

I bought third-party instant messaging software for my PDA so I could use my unlimited data plan with it; the instant-messaging software built in to the PDA is designed to use text messages, at the cost of $0.10 a line or requiring an additional $20/mo for unlimited texts. (Given how talkative I can be, that would pay off in one conversation if I used the built-in client.) It's worked very well for me; I've had a few problems with it, but on the whole no more than I'd expect from any randomly-selected software.

I've been frustrated, however, by how it handles invisible users. I can't open AIM windows with someone who appears offline at all. For Yahoo, I can send messages, but it gives me a "this message will be delivered next time user logs on, yadda yadda yadda" warning every single line I send, even if the user is obviously actually online and the conversation is ongoing! At least I can ignore the message; I can't exactly ignore a "Can't open dialog! This user is offline." whenever I try to open up a conversation with an invisible use, especially when the program then cheerfully refuses to open up a chat window.

I decided to send in a support request, asking if they could consider removing that dialog box- or at least making it possible to go on and converse- in the next version.

Her English is a heck of a lot better than my Russian, but I still find it amusing. I can figure out what the message means, though! I think...
