Advertising reaches a new low

I just saw, in a GMail sidebar ad, that someone has spent actual money to take out an ad pointing to a MySpace profile.

I desperately wish I was joking.

Incidentally, I find it highly amusing that just a subject line mentioning LiveJournal will get three ads about MySpace when you save the e-mail and then come back to it (so it can serve up ads) with just a subject line.
