goto redmond;

So for those who missed my last post...

Later today (technically speaking... it's after midnight) I'll be heading to Redmond, Washington for a job interview with Microsoft. That telephone interview I had a while back went well, apparently, if they're going to the expense to put my scaly tail on a plane and run me through a six-hour interview process... I've got a good chance, I hope.

This will be the first time I've ever been more than 1,000 miles away from my parents, the first time I've had to deal with an airport or hotel room myself, and the first time I'll ever be in a taxi. This represents my first real chance at freedom: if I get this job, I will have the summer to myself, working, away from the control of my parents. And let's be honest- 9-to-5 five days a week is a hell of a lot less work than college has been.

I'm nervous, but not as nervous as I should be about the interview. I know what I'm doing. I'm being interviewed as a Software Design Engineer in Test; it would be my job to catch the bugs before y'all catch the bugs. I'm good at that, as evidenced by my strong challenge rate at TopCoder. I like that, as evidenced by my frequent attendence at TopCoder...

Prayer, magic, and generic "good vibes" are all appreciated here...

This is going to be an interesting experience.

As noted on my last post, I've gotten PhonePost working, so you'll get to hear my stuttering, girly voice from the airport before takeoff and probably on my layover. I'll be leaving Lambert Airport at 1:33 PM, and arriving in St. Paul, Minnesota at about 3:15. Then I'll be leaving Minnesota at 5:23, and arrive in Seattle at 7:09, which is actually nearly a four-hour flight because of time zones. Then on Tuesday (Valentine's Day), I'll be heading home, starting at 3:09 Seattle time.. and winding up in Minnesota at 8:20, losing those two hours. Home will finally be 11:30 PM. I think I'll skip class on Wednesday.

Although for making PhonePosts, I'll probably write a script first so I ramble less... not that I ramble any less in text, heh. Although I do use "y'all" about equally as much. (It's a useful linguistic construct, I say!)

Anyway, wish me luck, and if anybody can advise me where I should forage get a good meal in Seattle, I'd appreciate the advice. Too bad security checkpoint time is on the order of an hour and fifteen minutes- I can't get a good meal in Minnesota on either layover, because I won't have time to go back through security. Unless there's good food at the airport, but everybody knows how probable that is.

'Twill be an intersting task to stay on my diet given the constraints. I'll do my best; I've lost over 20 lbs. so far, and it shows- but I've got more to lose before I reach a healthy weight.

I'll be keeping y'all posted!
