LiveJournal Crash Accidental Poetry

As you may or may not be aware, journals on Chef cluster, subcluster 8 have had severe issues due to a recent "routine" move. (Sort of like Apollo 13 was routine.) But skimming through the comments of people on that cluster, one gave me pause.

http://www.livejournal.com/community/lj_maintenance/86889.html?thread=5800809#t5800809 is sort of like some form of weird poetry...

I'm curious now - how does that work? Like...servers on LiveJournal...

How many are there? What're all their names? What's a subcluster?

I have to confess general ignorance of the cluster system. I think it's a server farm centered on one master, and each redundant array of servers is one subcluster, but I'm absolutely totally guessing at this point.

Ask in spr0t. A question that ISN'T just answered with a "Read this FAQ" is a pleasant change of pace... trust me and my 80-ish answered requests.

I found a couple of answers by Googling a bit right after I asked you this. Check out this (PDF) and possibly this...

As of early 2004, at least, the [cluster servers? something like that] were named Cartman, Chef, Santa, Green, and Ribeye - and then there are two other servers, Big Boned, and Syndication, which don't seem to have subclusters...or something. The stuff I found was interesting reading - at least what of it I could actually understand.

(I was most interested in their names, anyway...)

I'm on "Indigo". Not as cool as "Chef" though.

There's also a cluster called MadCow.
